Opened in 2005 in Atholl, Johannesburg, tashas is our flagship brand with 16 stores in South Africa, 6 in the UAE and 1 in London.
If you’ve ever stepped into a tashas café, it will have undoubtedly left its mark on you.
BEFORE the birth of tashas, your options for breakfast or lunch might be an uninspired ham and cheese tramezzini, cappuccino muffin or a basic salad. This frankly unimaginative offering became apparent to Natasha, who had worked in and owned franchised restaurants prior.
If you’ve ever stepped into a TASHAS café, it will have undoubtedly left its mark on you. The STAFF are attentive, knowledgeable and sincere, the INTERIORS are beautiful and authentic, and the dishes, simple, inspired and Fresh Authentic food, prepared on order is something that many brands promise, and flout. But at every tashas, freshness is a guarantee, rather than a marketing hook. INGREDIENTS which are sliced and cooked the minute you place your order… this is what separates the tashas MENU from the crowd.
Our dishes are intrinsically simple and are inspired by the CLASSICS. “They might evoke a memory of a dish eaten as a child, or something that your mom used to make. It’s accessible everyday food, that is good for the soul,” explains the group’s Executive Chef Jill Lee Okkers.
For those who can’t get enough of their FAVOURITE dishes, our mainstays are available across all branches. Some of those include the Citrus Sunrise breakfast bowl, the Heirloom Halloumi salad, Parmesan & Couscous Crusted Chicken and Ninetta’s Napoletana. Further setting the brand apart, each tashas has its own identity, something we call Inspired By.
Rebelling against the cookie-cutter model of franchising, each cafe is a little bit the same and a little bit different. While the brand’s DNA runs through every outlet, Inspired By is a subtle signature which our customers identify with, from the menu to the interiors, since each signature is chosen specifically for the mood of the area and its people. tashas Rosebank, for example is inspired by New York and Menlyn Maine takes its cue from the Levant Kitchen.
The tashas AESTHETIC, much like Natasha herself, is about honesty and authenticity. We use TIMELESS materials like oak, brass, marble and stucco - a rarity in daytime eateries and franchises today - to convey understated elegance. Our interiors are SOPHISTICATED, comfortable and exclusive, without excluding and we are fierce supporters of local design talent, collaborating with South African artists and artisans to lend our stores a unique, representative feel. Customers will quickly recognise the impressive, large scale paper installation at many of the tashas restaurants, crafted by artist Elonah O’Neil, or our beautiful plates and bowls, handmade by some of the best local ceramicists.
New locations are planned in Saudi Arabia and other international markets.
